Albert Hofmann, the father of LSD, passed away at 9AM CEST on Tuesday April 29, 2008 at his home in Basel, Switzerland. Cause of death was a heart attack; two caretakers were there with him at the time. MAPS President Rick Doblin said, "[Albert and I] spoke on the phone the day after the Basel conference and he was happy and fulfilled. He'd seen the renewal of LSD psychotherapy research with his own eyes, as had [his wife] Anita. I said that I looked forward to discussing the results of the study with him in about a year and a half and he laughed and said he'd try to help the research however he could, either from this side or "the other side".

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 9:37 PMOf all places for me to first read of this news! I have been an admirer of him since I first started to read about LSD after having taken it a few times in the early seventies. My first experience with it also was while riding a bicycle. I always tripped on the coincidence of that. 102, that is something else. Sounds like he was of clear mind too. Amazing. -

Re: Albert Hofman has passed away. 4.29.08
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 11:01 PMHofmann was disappointed when his discovery was removed from commercial distribution. He remained convinced that the drug had the potential to counter the psychological problems induced by “materialism, alienation from nature through industrialisation and increasing urbanisation, lack of satisfaction in professional employment in a mechanised, lifeless working world, ennui and purposelessness in wealthy, saturated society, and lack of a religious, nurturing, and meaningful philosophical foundation of life”.
Very profound, and all true. Its unfortunate that this message is so difficult to communicate.
Actually its very easy to communicate, a picture is worth a thousand words but a pinch of psychedelic is worth all words -

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:46 PM“ I think that in human evolution it has never been as necessary to have this substance LSD. It is just a tool to turn us into what we are supposed to be. ”

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 12:21 AM"I believe that if people would learn to use LSD's vision-inducing capability more wisely, under suitable conditions, in medical practice and in conjunction with meditation, then in the future this problem child could become a wonderchild." -- Albert Hofmann
